Vegan Nail Polish Analysis

Vegan Nail Polish Certificate

What is Vegan Nail Polish?

One of the most important issues for vegans is that the cosmetic products used are produced in accordance with the understanding of veganism. There are 2 important criteria for vegan nail polish:

- It certainly does not contain any substance of animal origin.

The rule that does not contain animal-based products, which is the basis of the veganism understanding, applies to nail polish as in every product. Cosmetic products may contain milk proteins, some even placenta. Even if they do not, it may not be clear whether a product is vegan or not by reading the labels. This situation can be safely purchased with vegan labeling processes.

- It should not be tested on animals.

Almost all cosmetic products are tested on animals before they reach the consumer. This situation is completely opposite to the vegan lifestyle. Nowadays, it is carried out in a laboratory environment without the use of animals. Of course, the introduction of a product as vegan is not a clear indication that this product has not been tested on animals. It is especially important that the products have the "Cruelty Free" label.

The most common animal origin substances used in nail polish:

- Guanine, also called natural pearl extract or CI 75170, is a luminous substance produced by processing fish scales.
Carmine is a bright red pigment. It is obtained by drying and crushing the scale insects that commonly live on cactus farms in South and Central America.
- Keratin is an animal protein derived from mammals such as cattle, horses, pigs, rabbits and others. It is believed to strengthen the damaged surface of hair, nails and even skin for cosmetic use.
